Development Bodyshell.

“THE GOAL IS

TO MAKE A
VERY GOOD CAR
EVEN BETTER.”

Michael, Team Manager Development Bodyshell Overall Vehicle

Overall vehicle development is extremely complex. If you’ve got a relatively small team for such a big task, you need an effective crew with broad expertise. In our case, we never say “once a strut in the left rear, always a strut in the left rear” – or, applying this to the bodyshell, “once a fender, always a fender.” Anyone who prefers a small area of responsibility and a large comfort zone is better off working for a big OEM. Here, every engineer is involved in the complete bodyshell, everyone interacts with engineers from other areas, with the interior team or the design department. That’s highly motivating. Because it enables us to grow in our role.

FOR EVERY ENGINEER, IT’S
THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

TO WORK AT THE PINNACLE
OF TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY.

Our engineers manage their components from the conceptual layout to production all the way to the assembly line. We develop our specific body projects autonomously and from start to finish. For us in body-in-white development, we’re dealing with part projects such as hoods and side sills, but our job also includes the development of complete bodies. The purpose of this holistic approach to development is to be able to integrate all of the required parameters into our vehicles. On the elements we focus on here is obviously the issue of lightweight construction. This involves the application of construction methods using mixed materials with aluminum and carbon as well as the integration of all functional components such as doors, hatches and roof systems into the body. In principle, the same also goes for “normal” vehicles – the extra challenge at AMG, however, lies in the performance-oriented configuration.

The AMG motto “Driving Performance” formulates our ambition to build the best vehicles. That’s the challenge that all have to meet and that we also gladly meet. We’re part of a team that leads the pack. You must want to freely engage in forward thinking, to achieve your ideas and visions, and to pursue them with a certain autonomy. And in exchange, AMG also does a lot for its employees – and we all identify with the company. It’s extremely exciting to participate in our success, also for me personally.
